Well done on completing your walk which I've been following since March when Helen enrolled you in the Backpackers Club. I'm the membership secretary. I would be interested to receive any feedback of the use you made, if any, of the pitches in the Club directories. if there are any good ones you can recommend (or not) then please send details to Ron Graves at Pitches@backpackersclub.co.uk This information can be used to update the directories for the benefit of other Club members.

I'm starting a coast to coast (Ravenglass to Lindisfarne) on 30 August and then a LEJOG starting in April 2009.

Glad to see you are back on the road, Roy. The medics release you and the NHS celebrates 60 years.....is there some significance?!?!
Love to have details and whereabouts of the Old Fashioned Sweets Shop, worth a visit, I think.
Pleased that the weather has at last seemed to improve.

Sorry to read you are having trouble with the new footwear. It's one of those..."it seemed like a good idea at the time!!" moments. The weather has been good but the forecast is rain (heavy) for the south ...I bet you're glad you are heading up North. God luck.

Hello Mike Wilson, whoever you are. Thanks a million for the offer. Roy isn't actually going via Dunblane - he's crossing over onto Arran to avoid Glasgow, then up the mountains on the western side, through Fort William etc. But it's the thought that counts - cheers.

I have noticed that 'Lands End to Cape Wrath in a holey tent' is, anagramatically speaking, the same as ' A lone path and tin scented holy water'. This is perhaps a reference to a visit to church in Cornwall?

Thinking of you striding through thorn bushes and being savaged by gales in hail swept terrains makes us appreciate that we are here at Caz's drinking a few ales with our feet up in front of the fireplace.
Today we showed Harry the distance between Leeds and Bath and told him it took 5 hours to drive it. Then we showed him your route and he said that you must be some sort of Super hero. We told him that you weren't but he refused to believe us.
Anyway we cant write anymore as we have to throw a few more logs on the fire. Hope the tent isn't too cold!
Anyway joking aside good luck and keep safe we are all very proud.

Well done Helen, very brave to join the boy in awful weather. Even braver to attempt to blog the trip. We haven't a clue but look forwrd to following both your efforts. By the time he arrives in Arran we'll perhaps have an idea of his basic needs eg. soak in bath, beer and bed? Plus of course a decent meal.
